We welcome all kinds of feedback from customers, community partners and our service providers to improve our services. If your complaint relates to a legal matter in which a Legal Aid Queensland lawyer assists a client, we are generally required to provide our client with your personal data. We can accept and investigate anonymous complaints, but we cannot recommend the outcome. The commission cannot force a lawyer to reduce an account or repay funds. The Board cannot prevent a lawyer from taking legal action against you to recover unpaid fees. The lodging of a complaint with the Commission shall not delay or modify the proceedings already initiated. If you have a complaint about legal counsel employed by the government, you should raise your concerns with the chief executive officer of that government department or agency.

A complaint against a government lawyer can only be made by the chief executive of the government, the Queensland Law Society, the Queensland Bar Association or other Australian lawyers. Generally, the Commission refers complaints concerning intergovernmental counsel to the management authority of that State or territory. We do not accept complaints about cases that were closed more than a year ago. Legal Aid Queensland provides information, advice and representation in family, civil and criminal matters. The Legal Aid Call Centre is staffed by information officers who can provide legal advice, legal advice or other services. Legal aid lawyers can offer free advice in most, but not all, areas of law. Legal aid may be represented in some legal cases, but this service is almost always means-tested (with the exception of victims of crime and minors). We will send you a response once we have investigated your complaint.

We aim to resolve complaints within 30 business days, but more complex complaints may take longer. It may take some time to process a complaint, depending on the complexity and seriousness of the complaint and the length of the investigation. We will also use the information you provide to us to find ways to improve our service delivery. The Commission cannot accept complaint forms received through an online storage service such as OneDrive, Dropbox, Icloud, Google Drive, etc. If your complaint relates to Legal Aid Queensland`s Grants feature, your personal data will not be disclosed to any other person or entity outside of LAQ, except as permitted or required by law.
