The deal was also issued by the UAE federal government and marks the first issuance of government bonds. Although individual emirates have issued debt in the past, this was a first for the federal government and was made possible by a recent change in the country`s legal framework.

The bond has been listed four times in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan and London, which required extensive work with four regulators. Law firms needed to ensure that all parties were brought together in parallel in a completely new legal framework to balance the demands of a significant number of stakeholders. On the banking side, the legal teams of Citi and HSBC played a leading role and were recognized for their decisive role. This transaction paved the way for further federal issuances, followed by a U.S. dollar-denominated bond issue earlier this year. IFLR would like to thank everyone who took the time to contribute to this year`s awards through submissions and interviews. The calibre of work demonstrated this year made the judging process extremely difficult, and congratulations go to all those shortlisted and, of course, to the winners. See the full list below.
